The best

This app is amazing. Great for programming synths that are heavy on the menu diving, and great for patch management. It supports a ton of synths and more are added all the time. Plus the new pricing structure is much better, it's a no-brainer for anyone with a couple of these synths. Seems like the price was an issue for people before but it makes more sense now and is very much worth every penny in my opinion. I use it regularly with the Roland D-05 and Korg Volca FM, both of which are currently pretty common and very accessible to the masses (they're cheap). They're also both very powerful but notoriously difficult to program from the front panel. Even just simple tweaks on presets can be a pain on the D-05/50 but with this I can easily build wild patches from scratch/init. One more thing, I couldn't figure out why something wasn't working but they got back to me and it was simply that the midi channel was reset during an update, they were very helpful in troubleshooting and answered other questions I had as well. They're doing good work!

Get SO much more from your 80s +90s rack synths

Ok so when I was a teen in the 90s, I got my 1st synth (Roland D-10) not really understanding techno gear and what was really making the music I loved. Later I figured it out but I the meantime did my best with that D-10. I may not have ever made a decent sounding acid tracks but what I did do was learn to appreciate machines like that, to get creative, and certainly use them in ways their designers probably didn't intend.
Since the first time I learned there was an iPad midi interface I've been waiting for someone to design an editor for some of these 'ugly duckling' synths. Coffeeshopped has done it. These editors are amazing, cleverly designed and parameters thoughtfully arranged. So far every one I've tried works perfectly and immediately sent me down super fun new paths of sound design.
I've read a few reviews balking at the prices. I don't agree with that at all. I don't feel those reviewers really appreciate what these tools unlock. Maybe it's the few decades I spent menu diving and button pushing on a TX-802 that have me convinced. But to me the value is in the access these editors give you to solid, professional, real vintage gear that can be had for tiny fractions of what more sought after vintage gear goes for.
Thanks to Chadwick and I'm looking forward to more editors!

Essential

Honestly, it took me a while to warm up to this app. In the iOS world, it’s a bit on the pricier side, but compared to alternatives, it’s a great buy. Especially if you’re using synthesizers that require extensive navigation. And while the subscription prices seem like a ploy to nickel and dime people, it’s considerate of the developer to give users options to suit their budget/needs.
I bought this for the Volca FM, and plan on getting the DX7ii editor very soon. The developer is responsive to inquiries, and constantly works to improve the app. Version 3 is a huge upgrade from the earlier versions. The new interface is a lot better, and specifically speaking of the FM editors, I particularly like that the per operator and global parameters are color coded differently (a feature not found in the older versions). I’m excited for what the future holds for this app.

FAQ

Where can I find the download section?

Please look at the right column of this page. You will find all the available tools and documentation right there.

Waldorf Blofeld Editor

How do I perform an update on Quantum?

Please download the newest OS from the download column on the right. Unzip the file and put the quantum.update.bin file onto the main directory of an SD card. The card must be in FAT32 format. It doesn't have to have special certifications, just any standard SD card will do. Insert the SD cart into Quantum upside down. Go to Global>System and press Update. The procedure will take less than a minute. Switch Quantum off and on again to complete the process.

Waldorf Blofeld Patches

When will the 2.0 version of Quantum OS be released?

OS 2.0 is still in the beta phase. Currently we don't have a release date available yet.

If you want to become a part of the beta test program, please leave us a message using the support form at the end of this page.

How do I make a backup of my patches?

Please go to Load > Actions > Export. There, you can select and export your patches. Please note that the samples attached to the patches will not be saved automatically.

When I turn the analog filter cutoff, the filter doesn't change!

Please go to Global>System>Calibrate>Filters. Press Reset. This deletes the filter calibration data, then you should be able to control your filters again.

In rare cases, you need to calibrate and reset another time.

My SD card is not recognized by the Quantum.

Please make sure the SD card is turned upside down and inserted properly. Also, it should be FAT32-formatted. There are no known incompatibilities with any SD card.

Quantum doesn't recognize the update file, although it definetly is located in the top directory of the SD card.

Please allow a bit of time, sometimes Quantum needs up to a minute after inserting the SD before it recognizes the card and the update file. In rare cases, you may try two or three times.

Opening the zip file isn't enough, the quantum.update.bin file has actually be unpacked.

Maybe your file got corrupted during download, please try downloading it again.

What is the 'Flash Panel' function for?

Quantums update file contains the OS with the software for the synthesis, GUI, etc. and a separate software for the panel controller which drives the buttons, LEDs and potentiometers. Both of these are just in one file, the quantum.update.bin. If there is a newer panel software available in the update file on the card, Quantum will note you about that when you update the main OS. Then, you can push the Flash Panel button. Otherwise, this function does not have to be used.

Why did Quantum arrive in a cloth bag instead of plastic?

We felt that wrapping this exclusive instrument in plastic would have been inappropriate and wouldn't have done this instrument justice. Also, the cloth bag protects the instrument from being scratched better than a plastic bag could do.

What is the difference between Latch and Chord Mode?

In Latch Mode, a key is engaged when pressed and sustained until you hit the same key again, then the note will be released.

In Chord Mode, only the last note or chord will be held until you press the next key(s), then the previous notes will be released and the new note or chord will be sustained.

My device isn't recognized via USB.

Make sure that your device is connected to your computer directly and not through a hub.

Use the rear USB of your computer, not front USB connection.

Disconnect all other USB devices from your computer which aren't needed at the moment.

Change the USB cable or try from a different computer.

On Mac: Click on About this Mac in the Apple menu. Select System Report. Go to the Hardware dropdown menu on the left and unfold it. Select USB. Check if your device is listed there.

On Windows: Press the Win key+R. Enter devmgmt.msc and press OK. Check if your device is listed there. If it shows up as an 'Unknown Device' and if there's a black and yellow warning sign, deinstall the driver. Then unplug the instrument, reboot your machine and plug it back in.

I think of a certain feature about sound design, is this possible to do in Quantum?

In many cases, specific wishes for sound design can be realized using the modulation matrix. Remember that you can use a Control Amount that will be added to the modulation. For example an unipolar LFO can be achieved with Constant in the Control amount of the same modulation slot.

Quantum does not react to Program Change Messages!

You will have to use the Favorites list in order to get the Prog CH working.

Load a patch that you want to call up later.Go to a screen that is not Load/Save - for example, go to the Osc1 page.

Press the encoder under the middle of the display downwards. There you will find the Favorites screen. Tap and hold an empty field to put your current patch onto one of those fields. Also, you can use the Favorites function on the Load screen.

Quantum reacts to Prog CH only with the Favorites list. As soon as you have put the most needed patches there, you can call them up by MIDI then.

Quantum has crashed!

First, please update Quantum's OS. We often release a new firmware with new features and we definetly recomment going for it. The procedure takes less than a minute.

Quantum's OS is really stable so crashes rarely occur. If Quantum crashes anyway, please generate a system logfile by pressing Global>System>Support Log. Include your name and crash date in the file name when saving. Send us your file and we will take a look into this.

Which footswitch and expression pedals can I use with my device?

Any sustain pedal with a 6,3mm jack that closes the contact when being pressed should work. Our recommendation is a Fatar/Studiologic VFP1/10. Only use a single pedal, dual pedals won't work.

For the swell / continuous pedal, we recommend using a Fatar/Studiologic VP-27. Otherwise, other 10k maximum resistance expression/swell pedals should work, too.

For both sustain and continuous, pedals compatible with Fatar, Roland, Moog, Kurzweil, M-Audio should be working as well.

The Korg/Yamaha models may not work though.

Are the outputs from my device balanced or unbalanced?

This device has unbalanced outputs. We recommend using it with unbalanced cables.

Does my device send audio via its USB connection?

No. This device only sends and receives MIDI via USB. Transferring audio or files isn't possible.

Can I lift up Quantum by the aluminum rod on the back?
Patch

Yes, you can lift up Quantum and move it around using that rod as a handle.

I want to play a sound that produces the same pitch over the entire keyboard. How do I do that?
Blofeld

Open the Mod Matrix and make three modulations: Keytrack -> Pitch or three times Keytrack -> Osc 1/2/3 pitch if you just want to do it for one of the oscillators. Two of the modulations should have -100% and one about -90%. Then, every key will produce the same pitch. To tune the base pitch then, use another modulation with Constant as the source.

I think I have to send my device in, how do I proceed? What do I have to do when I send my unit to Waldorf from outside the European Union?

First, make sure you've tried all the procedures above that are related to your issue.

If nothing helps and your device is still covered by warranty, please contact the retailer where this device has been bought.

All our devices come with 2 years of warranty. Depending on local law, some retailers only cover 1 year of warranty service. If your device has been bought more than one but less than two years ago, and your dealer refuses to do a warranty service repair, please contact the distributor for your area. You will find a list of them here: https://waldorfmusic.com/en/international-distributors Oggy et les cafards films.

If your device is out of warranty, please use the button below. Please give a precise description of the error. If it's really necessary to send your unit in, we will issue an RMA form.

Wrap up your device savely. Ensure that it's padded at least 5cm/2inches in ALL directions all around. Use a sturdy cardboard box and parcel tape. Do not use gaffers tape as this often comes loose during transport.

Fill out the RMA form on your computer. Print it out, sign it and put it INSIDE the box. We reserve the right to refuse working on devices which come with no error description.

IMPORTANT: When sending in your device from outside the EU

All packages must have a proforma invoice stuck on the OUTSIDE of the box. This is important for the customs duty. The contents of the parcel must be named and described exactly on the invoice. Also with declaration of the date of purchase and condition of the unit.

We would recommend to describe your device as defective and mark the contents of the parcel at a total value of 25€ or less. Otherwise, there will be extra fees (tax) from customs duties which we must pass onto you.No tax will be charged for goods with a value less than 25 €.Keep in mind that in case the parcel gets lost, the insurance of the post service (if applicable) will only refund the value marked in the declaration.

If the above points are not considered, please be aware that we must charge you the extra costs which arise through customs duty for storage and the additional handling etc. This would be an amount between 60 - 100 Euro.
